Senior Dog Class

Is your senior dog tired of staying home?  Looking for something fun to do with your geriatric pal?  Come for some fun and learning to our popular Senior Dog Class!

 

Course Dates & Times:

 

4 Evenings

Tuesdays 7:30 - 8:30pm

February 25, March 3, 10, & 17, 2020

Course Learning Objectives:

  1. Senior dogs health
  2. Injury prevention
  3. Balance / coordination
  4. Proprioception / body awareness
  5. Flexibility 
  6. Increased performance / general conditioning
  7. Maintain or improve strength and endurance
  8. Minimize pain and maximize function

**Each class will build on the previous class to challenge your dog’s ability... Topics covered will include education regarding hind end, forelimb, and spinal conditions, followed by circuit training stations to build balance, strength, core and general conditioning, and ending with some relaxation techniques.

**The Instructors will e-mail you prior to the first class to let you know what to expect and what to bring.

Sue Van Evra, BSc.PT, MSc, BHScPT, Dipl. Canine Rehab

Sue has a Physiotherapy Degree from McMaster University and a Bachelor and Master Degree in Physiology from the University of Western Ontario.  She has spent the last 24 years working as a physiotherapist with humans and has been working in Canine Rehabilitation since 2006.  

 

Sue has a soft spot for senior dogs and recognizes that there are so many things (including rehab) that can keep older dogs mobile, functional, and comfortable in their senior years! She has been really looking forward to the Senior Dog Class!

 

Sandra Oxtoby, BKin, MScPT, Dipl. Canine Rehab (c) 

Sandra completed her Bachelor of Kinesiology from the University of Calgary in 2010 and then went on to obtain her Master of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Alberta in 2015.  She is an equestrian rider and also treats horses and riders in addition to the dogs she sees at The Canine Fitness Centre.  She joined the Canine Fitness Centre in 2015.

 

Sandra has grown up with dogs (and horses).  She’s currently the owners of two very high energy Kelpie / Heeler cross dogs.  So, Sandra’s looking forward to the sweet calmness of working with the Senior dogs in this class!

 

Jennifer Gordon, BScPT, CAFCI, CCRT

Jen holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Saskatchewan and has worked in the field of orthopaedic physical therapy (on humans) since 2001.  She has additional certifications in medical acupuncture and manual and manipulative therapy. Jen has been working in the field of canine rehabilitation since 2006.

 

Jen has been a dog lover and dog owner all of her life.  She has owned and cared for senior dogs and is really looking forward to sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm with the Senior Dog Class participants!

 

Erin Lanting, BSc, MScPT, Dipl. Canine Rehab (c) 

Erin has a Bachelor degree in Neuroscience and a Master degree in Physical Therapy.  She holds additional certifications in dry needling, kinesiotaping, spinal cord injury, knee osteoarthritis and of course canine rehabilitation.

Erin has a very energetic husky at home which she met (and subsequently adopted) while shadowing at The Canine Fitness Centre.  She's looking forward to evenings spent with loveable Senior Dogs!
